FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOLLOWING A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT
SHOULD I GET EVALUATED EVEN IF MY PAIN ISN’T SEVERE?
Yes, if you are experiencing symptoms or have concerns following an accident, an evaluation can help determine whether you sustained a musculoskeletal injury and what care may be appropriate. Some symptoms may become more noticeable in the hours or days following a collision.
WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE SYMPTOMS RIGHT AWAY?
Not every injury causes significant symptoms immediately after an accident. Neck or back stiffness, soreness, headaches, muscle spasms, and restricted movement may become more noticeable afterward. If symptoms develop, contact our office so we can discuss the appropriate next step.
HOW SOON SHOULD I BE SEEN AFTER A CAR ACCIDENT?
If you are injured or experiencing symptoms, it is generally a good idea not to unnecessarily delay evaluation. If you intend to use Florida PIP benefits, Florida law generally requires initial services and care within 14 days of the accident to qualify for medical benefits.
DO YOU TREAT WHIPLASH?
Yes. We evaluate and treat musculoskeletal injuries associated with whiplash, including neck pain and stiffness, cervical sprain and strain injuries, headaches associated with neck injury, muscle spasms, restricted range of motion, and related symptoms.
WHAT TREATMENTS MIGHT I RECEIVE?
Treatment is based on your examination findings rather than using the same protocol for every accident patient. Care may include chiropractic treatment, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and rehabilitation, dry needling, acupuncture, Class IV laser therapy, Winback TECAR therapy, mobility work, and other appropriate treatment methods.
WILL I NEED X-RAYS OR AN MRI?
Not every patient requires imaging. Your history, symptoms, examination findings, and the circumstances of the accident help determine whether X-rays, MRI, or another type of evaluation may be appropriate. When necessary, we can help coordinate the appropriate next step.
WHAT IF I NEED TO SEE ANOTHER TYPE OF DOCTOR?
If your condition requires additional medical evaluation or care outside our office, we'll help guide you toward the appropriate provider. Auto accident recovery sometimes involves multiple healthcare professionals, and we can coordinate care when appropriate.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?
Bring your photo ID, auto insurance information, claim number if available, accident or crash-report information, and any medical records or imaging related to the accident. If you don't have everything yet, call us and we'll let you know what information is needed.
CAN I COME TO BAYSIDE IF I ALREADY WENT TO THE ER OR URGENT CARE?
Yes. Many patients are initially evaluated at an emergency room or urgent care following an accident and then seek follow-up care for ongoing musculoskeletal symptoms. Bring any records, imaging, or discharge information you received so we can review them as part of your evaluation.
