FLORIDA'S 14-DAY PIP REQUIREMENT
WHAT IS PIP?
Personal Injury Protection (PIP) is part of Florida's no-fault auto insurance system. PIP may provide benefits for medically necessary care following a motor vehicle accident, regardless of who was responsible for the collision, subject to the terms and limits of the applicable policy. Florida law provides for PIP medical benefits at 80% of reasonable expenses for covered, medically necessary services, subject to statutory requirements and policy limitations.
THE 14-DAY REQUIREMENT
Timing after an accident is important. Under Florida law, initial services and care generally must be received within 14 days of the motor vehicle accident to qualify for PIP medical benefits. Chiropractic physicians are among the healthcare providers authorized by the statute to provide qualifying initial services and care.
